The procedure for the reading of the verdict

The reading of the verdict starts at 10:00 Friday August 24. The verdict will be pronounced for the defendant in court room 250 at Oslo District Court. The two judges and the three lay judges will be present.

Judge Wenche Elizabeth Arntzen will read the conclusion first. Normally all present in the court room will stand when the decision is read. The conclusion consists of the decision of the five judges.

After the conclusion is announced for the defendant, judge Wenche Elizabeth Arntzen and judge Arne Lyng will read the full verdict. This will take approximately 5-6 hours, including breaks for lunch etc.

The verdict consists of two parts. The first part, which will not be read, consists of the indictment and the claims from the prosecutors and the defence. The other part consists of the courts judgement. In this part, the case is described as well as the courts terms for the conclusion.

When the judges are finished reading the verdict, the defendant will be asked whether he accepts the verdict, appeals or chooses to extend the decision. There is a two week limit for the parties involved in order to accept or appeal the verdict. In a trial like this, the Director General of Public Prosecution has the authority to appeal.  The aggrieved party has no rights to appeal as the court has not considered their claims of indemnity or other claims.

Borgarting lagmannsrett will address the appeal.
