Court fees are the fees payable by the complainant or appellant against a court judgement.

If you win the case, the opposing party can be ordered to pay the court fee as part of the judgement on awarding case costs.

Go direct to information on payment of court fee.

A court fee (R) is NOK 1 130 (link to the Act on Court Fees at lovdata.no). The number of fees payable varies according to type of case and how extensive it will be. See list of court fees for various cases below .

In some cases, no court fees are payable. These include child custody cases, paternity cases, cases according to the Tenancy Act and against an employer – see section 10 of the Act on Court Fees (lovdata.no).

Free legal aid (lovdata.no) can also imply waiving court fees.

A party not using a lawyer has to pay the court fee in advance before the court will allow the case.

If a party asks the court for lay judges or to appoint an expert, extra fees will be payable.
