Claimant is the term used for the person who goes to court seeking resolution of a dispute. To follow is a list of the most important rights and duties a claimant has.

The most important rights and duties of the claimant are

  • The claimant must be called to attend all court sessions for the case, and must attend if ordered to do so. 
  • He or she can opt to represent him/her self or have a lawyer to do so. 
  • He/she can call witnesses and present other evidence. He/she must give truthful and complete testimony and take an oath declaring that he/she will do so.
  • If in disagreement with the decisions the court makes, he/she has the principle right to retrial by a higher court.
