Court fees are the fees payable by the complainant or appellant against a court judgement.
If you win the case, the opposing party can be ordered to pay the court fee as part of the judgement on awarding case costs.

A court fee (R) is NOK 1 150 (link to the Act on Court Fees at lovdata.no). The number of fees payable varies according to type of case and how extensive it will be. See list of court fees for various cases below .
In some cases, no court fees are payable. These include child custody cases, paternity cases, cases according to the Tenancy Act and against an employer – see section 10 of the Act on Court Fees (lovdata.no).
Free legal aid (lovdata.no) can also imply waiving court fees.
A party not using a lawyer has to pay the court fee in advance before the court will allow the case.
If a party asks the court for lay judges or to appoint an expert, extra fees will be payable.

Common process - District Court
The entry fee is 5 R and includes the first day of the main hearing. The fee increases by 3 R for each court day up to and including day 5. As from day 6, the fee increases by 4 R. If the case has been heard by the Conciliation Board, the payment will be reduced by 1,15 R.
Cases that do not end in judgement:
if the case has been rejected, not been referred or cancelled (2 R) = NOK 2 300
if the case is settled/withdrawn more than 4 weeks before main hearing (2 R) = NOK 2 300
if the case is settled/withdrawn less than 4 weeks before main hearing (2.5 R) = NOK 2 875.
if the case is withdrawn or settled is reached before main hearing, half of the full fee is payable. An example: if settlement is reached on day 2 of the main hearing, a fee of NOK 4 600 is payable (half of NOK 9 200)
Judgement in absentia (2.5 R) = NOK 2 825.
Small Claims Process (chapter 10, the Dispute Act)
Cases tried according to the rules of the Small Claims Process that have been heard by the Conciliation Board are subject to a fee of (2.5 R) = NOK 2 875. If a case has not been heard first by the Conciliation Board, payment increases to (3.5 R) = NOK 4 025.
Declaration of invalidity
Declaration of invalidity (0,8 R)= NOK 920.
Declaration proceedings (5 R) = NOK 5 750
(5 R) for each day valuation is held = NOK 5 750.
- If valuation is cancelled before the first day (2 R) = NOK 2 300.
Enforcement and temporary injunction order
Requesting enforcement (1.1 R) = NOK 1 265 (even if the request is later withdrawn or rejected).
Requesting disbursement, also from other countries (1.7 R) = NOK 1 955.
Complaint to District Court in cases about compensation order (1 R) NOK 1 150.
Seizure and temporary injunction order (2.5 R) = NOK 2 875

Administration of an estate and bankruptcy hearings
Notice to creditors (2,2 R) = NOK 2 530.
Administration of the estate of a deceased person is in principle (18 R) = NOK 20 700. The District Courts often appoint a trustee. In such instances, the fee is (9 R) = 10 350 NOK. In addition, there will be a fee to the trustee.
Administration of jointly-owned estate and bankruptcy estate (25 R) = NOK 28 750.
Rejected or withdrawn requests on bankruptcy or debt hearings or if a bankruptcy case is cancelled (3 R) = NOK 3 450.
Advance payment to cover estate administration expenses when applying for public administration of jointly-owned estates and the estate of a deceased person: NOK 30 000 (can vary as it is set by each district Court).
advance payment to cover estate administration costs when applying for bankruptcy (50 R): NOK 57 500
Preparatory court session (2 R) = NOK 2 300.
- Debt settlement negotiations for an estate (5 R) = NOK 5 750.
Notarial certification (notary public)
- NOK 287 for notarial certification (0.25 R).
Storage of testaments
The storage of wills and testaments by the court costs NOK 920 (0.8 R).
Appeals and hearing in the Courts of Appeals and Supreme Court.
Appeal hearing (24 R) = NOK 27 600.
The same applies to appeals in cases heard according to the rules for Small Claims Process. Only 4 R is payable if the Court of Appeal overturns the judgement according to section 29-12(2) of the Dispute Act.
- In the event of a derivative, a court fee is payable of (24 R) = NOK 27 600.
Cases that do not end in judgement:
If the appeal is rejected, not been referred or cancelled (2 R) = NOK 2 300.
Appeal against verdicts and decisions (6 R) = NOK 6 900.
If the case is settled/withdrawn within 4 weeks before main hearing (2 R) = NOK 2 300.
If the case is settled/withdrawn later than 4 weeks before main hearing (12 R) = NOK 13 800
If the case is withdrawn or settlement reached during the main hearing, half of the full fee is payable
