Defendant
The defendant in a court case is the person the claimant has brought a case against. This page provides details of the role and rights of a defendant.
The defendant has more or less the same rights and duties as the claimant. The most important are

The defendant must be called to attend all court sessions for the case, and must attend if ordered to do so.

He or she can opt to represent him/her self or have a lawyer to do so. He/she can call witnesses and present other evidence.

He/she must give truthful and complete testimony and take an oath declaring that he/she will do so.

If in disagreement with the decisions the court makes, he/she can usually have them tried by a higher court.
