Our organisation

With 270 employees, the Oslo District Court is the largest district court in Norway. We handle criminal cases, civil cases, and administrative cases. The court is headed by District Court Chief Judge Yngve Svendsen.

Judicial activities

The judicial activities are organised into eight court divisions:

  • seven divisions handle civil disputes and criminal cases
  • one division handles civil cases only (this division constitutes what was previously the Oslo City Court)

Non-judicial activities

The non‑judicial activities consist of:

  • the Administration Division
  • the Criminal Case Division
    several case‑processing sections
  • the Probate Section

The Administration Division consists of the sections for HR, ICT, Security, Courthouse Services, and Communications and Public Affairs.

The administrative branch of the Oslo District Court is headed by Director Kari Gitmark.

Budget framework

The Oslo District Court has an annual budget of NOK 390 390 000.
