About us

The Norwegian Courts Administration (DA) is an independent administrative body with its own board, responsible for safeguarding and supporting the independence of the courts and judges. DA works to ensure that court operations at all times meet society’s requirements and expectations. DA has approximately 160 employees and is located in Trondheim.

This includes facilitating the proper and efficient handling of court proceedings. DA has both steering and support functions, as well as roles in legal policy and organizational development.

Its responsibilities toward the courts include:

  • financial management
  • organizational development
  • competence and training initiatives
  • internal and external communication
  • operation and development of IT systems

DA also has the administrative responsibility for the Finnmark Commission and the Land Tribunal for Finnmark, as well as an overarching employer function for the ordinary courts and the land consolidation courts.
