Justices

The Supreme Court of Norway consists of 20 justices, headed by the Chief Justice. A broad composition of the Court is considered important.

The justices should be drawn from different parts of the country and have a variety of professional backgrounds and experience. They are recruited from both the public and private sectors, and diversity in career paths is regarded as valuable. The Court should also have a balanced gender and age composition. Above all, however, appointments are based on outstanding professional qualifications.
