Princess Astrid
The Supreme Court of Norway has received the news of the passing of Princess Astrid, the older sister of the late King Harald V.
Although Princess Astrid held no formal constitutional role, she earned a significant place in Norwegian public life through her long service to the Royal House. Following the death of Crown Princess Märtha in 1954, she served as Norway's first lady until Crown Prince Harald married Sonja Haraldsen in 1968. She then continued as a working member of the royal family, serving alongside King Harald and Queen Sonja for many years.
Princess Astrid will be remembered for her dedication, endurance and compassion for people in vulnerable situations, reflected in her longstanding patronage of organisations promoting inclusion, health and human dignity.
The Supreme Court will remember Princess Astrid with great respect.
